Leading AI companies like Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, Samsung Electronics, and SK Telecom have pledged to ensure the safe and sustainable development of AI technologies. This commitment was made during the Global AI Forum, a side event of the AI Seoul Summit held at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology. The Seoul AI Business Pledge aims to foster diversity and inclusion, ensuring that AI benefits everyone equally.

In his opening address, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo emphasized the interconnected nature of safety, innovation, and inclusion—central themes of the AI Seoul Summit and the Global AI Forum. He highlighted safety as a crucial factor for sustainability in the global market.

The Seoul AI Business Pledge was endorsed by 14 prominent companies: Samsung Electronics, LG AI Research, SK Telecom, KT, Naver, Kakao, Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, IBM, Anthropic, Adobe, Cohere, and Salesforce. Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho stated that this pledge represents a voluntary commitment by both domestic and international tech companies to pursue responsible AI development and equitable benefit-sharing.

Minister Lee added that the companies would collaborate with AI safety research institutions to ensure responsible AI development and use. This includes implementing measures to identify AI-generated content through watermarks and developing international standards for AI practices. Additionally, the companies pledged to share best practices for safety frameworks and reduce the spread of AI-generated content to prevent misinformation that could undermine democratic processes.

Seoul AI Business Pledge: Commit to Safe and Inclusive AI Development

During the forum, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul, and Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho applauded the collaborative efforts and commitments made by the participating companies.

The Seoul AI Business Pledge aligns with the Frontier AI Safety Commitments agreed upon by 16 organizations during the AI Seoul Summit. These commitments include a pledge not to develop highly advanced AI systems that cannot be controlled by humans unless the associated risks can be mitigated.

Unlike the AI Safety Summit held in the United Kingdom in November, the Seoul Summit and the Global AI Forum introduced innovation and inclusion as new objectives. The aim is to promote the development of AI services in a manner that ensures no one is left behind, positioning this as a global goal.

Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong, in a video address at the summit, reiterated the company’s dedication to participating in international efforts to create safe, innovative, and inclusive AI. He emphasized that AI is not just about industrial disruption or economic growth but fundamentally reshaping how we live, work, and interact with the world. Lee Jae-yong stressed the need for responsible innovation to maximize benefits while minimizing misuse, highlighting Samsung’s core value of advancing humanity through technology. He assured that the company’s technologies and products would enable people to enjoy the benefits of AI.

This collective commitment by global AI leaders represents a significant step towards ensuring that the advancement of AI technology is inclusive, safe, and beneficial for all.
